AMAZON uses social media to build communities and engage with potential candidates and passive talent. Research from Amazon Web Services finds that 47 % of new jobs in the UK will require AI skills within the next three years, so the company is prioritising finding talent that can fill potential skills gaps and ensure the company does not slow down on growth targets. To achieve this, the company has developed a social first talent acquisition strategy that prioritises long-term relationship building, using sites such as Reddit and Discord to attract technically proficient talent. In dedicated forums and servers, such as r / AmazonFC, recruiters and other employees share insights about working for the company and wider industry news, positioning themselves as a resource for learning. By building up low-pressure interactions, potential candidates can observe and join discussions about the company – garnering interest and encouraging prospective talent to apply for new roles. Active employee involvement lends further authenticity to recruitment efforts, allowing prospective employees to build relationships with Amazon workers within these communities. The company has even developed specific channels for specialised talent pipelines – such as‘ New Grads’ or‘ EU Interns’ – to encourage further applications in necessary areas.
