LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT
ARCHITECT
“ If you are not learning new things, you stop doing great and useful things”
Satya Nadella CEO Microsoft
By embedding L & D into everyday life, Microsoft has made learning an integral part of the job, rather than just an add-on task. As the business has moved away from formal training cycles, Microsoft now encourages learning to happen in real time through the Microsoft Viva tool. Sitting directly within the flow of work, Microsoft Viva makes it easier for employees to access learning and embeds development into their daily routines. This improves engagement, speeds up skill application and ensures learning is more quickly translated
into measurable performance outcomes across the organisation. To track the L & D ROI, Microsoft uses what it calls Productivity Dividends, which include training the entire workforce on Copilot. In doing so, it has hit a 51 % faster adoption rate for new tech compared to their peers. Old-fashioned training days have also become a thing of the past for the tech giant, as it instead views learning as a real-time utility. For example, LinkedIn Learning data is used for predictive upskilling, helping leaders identify which skills will be redundant in six months.
